Artist Journal Pages i ny bog // Featured in new book - out now

A World of Artist Journal Pages: 1000+ Artworks - 230 Artists - 30 Countries.

A while ago, Dawn DeVries Sokol, author of 1000 Artist Journal Pages (and other wonderful books) askes me to contribute to her new book: A World of Artist Journal Pages: 1000+ Artworks - 230 Artists - 30 Countries. My work is presented on two spreads in the book (I even made the cover—the little fishie on the top is mine ;-), and today, my Q&A about the way I work and my sources of inspiration is featured on Dawn's blog here.
Thanks again ♥ for this great opportunity! And for making this book of great inspiration.

Journal IV

Iiihh!

. . . . . . .

Found a couple of old cutout sheets, still working in the little Moleskine. Swoop-swoop, without over-thinking, just glueing.

...when I'm not knitting this: Beehive by Craftsy. Well, am knitting (present tense) may be overselling it, I ran into some trouble decoding the recipe. You see, it wants me to Wrap-and-turn, and I haven't the slightest idea how to do that! So for now, I have done the gauge test.

Oh yes, and listening to Kat Edmonson. we-heee!

Art Journal, III

Art Journals.

. . . . . . . . . . . . .

What a pleasure, to cut and glue without measure or means :-)
These little books, where unplanned stories sometimes do – sometimes doesn't – come to life as we go, are my favourite at the moment. Art Journals. I'm not sure if it's Art – but they sure are fun to make :-)
I stumbled upon true treasures this week— Manuel Archain's original miniatures in everyday spaces. Flow magazines inspiring paper party. Louis and me—a rainbow-organized tumblr to die for! And Danish Chorus Grant, aka Kristian Finne, who made an album so mellow and lounge, with delicate lyrics and soft tones. Please follow the links above. I wish you the best of weekends :-)

New Art Journal

Having tried different kinds of notebooks, old books, new, different bindings, paper weight and bulk, I have come to the conclusion that this is my favourite: The Moleskine Japanese folded sketch book. Not the cheapest choice in the world, but I can't deny — the awesomest delicious'est! YUM!
I got this one when we were in New York in October, I even journalled while we were there, but I didn't like what I made at all. My mind was elsewhere, experiencing the city, I guess, not arty at all, that's for sure.
I have re-used some of the crap I found though—this bread tag, for instance, which makes a great someones head! Who'd have known?! I'll share more pages tomorrow.

—Hugs.

Good mistakes

I dare advertise that there is no such thing as doing wrong when it comes to making collages. Even the »mistakes« or unintended outcomes we make are precious lessons—if we dare see them as such.

So it wouldn't make any sence for me not to share this page—allthough it is not my proudest! I could go on about how the colours are messy, how I dislike the lack of focus, and the absent story. Sure, I could pull out the sledgehammer and beat myself up over how rotten this piece of ... dollop ... is, and »you-call-yourself-a-collage-artist?!«. But. I shall turn the sheet, I shall, and start a new page :-)

Journal page (with old blob)

Not everything used for the journal pages is made for this purpose. This yellow painted ... blob ... was cut out from a painting I discarded years ago. Yup! It has been in my drawer since. And Yup! This paper-mania takes up a lot of space ;-) Oh well.

Yet another page (with Letraset letters)

Makes me very happy, doing these little pages; no purpose or plan—just glue and old crap ;-)

New Art Journal In The Making

Half way into meditation last night, a strong remembrance suddenly popped into my head: MY OLD LETRASET SHEETS! My mind ran amok – I hadn't used them for years – could they still be in that white box? – No, I had moved them – Or had I? Sitting on my cushion, trying to maintain focus, the desire to shoot up and see if I would be able to find them was screaming for my attention :-)

I didn't cave! I sat – with my raging thoughts – until my little bell rang. Then I ran!

A mix of joy, nostagia and routine as I sat down to work the letters into my sketchbook. I got this bundle of arbitrary letters when I was in Art School (awww!); back then, they weren't nearly old enough to be cool vintage—just old crap. Good thing one tends to be a bit of a hoader. (More on that later).

(»Tiden« means the time in Danish).

On the verge

Don't you love this time of year - those few days - when the trees and bushes have only almost exploded into bright spring green? In a minute, but not quite yet, the streets will be covered in spring, and everybody will talk about Summer's coming. But for now, on the verge of this, we all just hold our breath ...

Inside, a new art journal is on the verge of becoming, with two and a half new pages.

The bill sheet was a gift from Susanne who attended our collage workshop in March :-) Thank you!

A pair of pigeons have made a family right outside our window, can you see her baby beneath her? And the scowling? For the record, I asked permission to take the picture. Of course ...
