Islands

My dad sold his shop last year. For a whole lifetime, he first worked in, later owned, this old fashion barber shop, with original black mirror walls, old barber stools with ox blood-coloured leather seats, and the same brand shampoo, you could buy here twenty years ago.
It held the best atmosphere, and men came here as much for the calm and the conversation as for the trim. I'm glad I grew up here. I'm glad I went in here with my camera. And I'm glad my dad is enjoying his retirement.
I wish you a happy day

  1. a beautiful tribute!
did you grow up around all the talking of the men, too? there is, i believe, a magic in the air in those old shops; a love and trust the men grow together! lucky.

  2. Thank you, Mansuetude. I went to school not far from the shop, so I visited at least once a week, more and more the older I got. Yes, it's amazing, the feel these old shops hold. I feel so fortunate to have been part of it.

  3. Nice written, I can feel the athmosphere. I would love old shops like this, unfortunately you can´t find theme here anymore, thanks the years with communistic behavior.

  4. In heart i want to whisper a prayer here, to the space of this shop--to the man who touched so many lives there. Peace to him and his.
